When
Daily (multiple times); International Mass typically 09:30
Every day at Lourdes, Masses are celebrated in the underground Basilica of Saint Pius X, in the open air before the Grotto, in the chapels of the Basilicas and in hotel conference rooms across the town. The International Mass, held each morning at 09:30 in front of the Grotto or in one of the main Basilicas, brings together pilgrimage groups from dozens of countries. The liturgy alternates between Latin and multiple vernacular languages, with the sermon translated simultaneously.
The Underground Basilica
The Basilica of Saint Pius X, consecrated in 1958 for the centenary of the apparitions, is the world's largest underground church, capable of holding 25,000 pilgrims. Its vast concrete shell, designed by Pier Luigi Nervi, is an architectural marvel. On days of major pilgrimages (the National Pilgrimages, Holy Days), this space is filled to capacity.
Masses in English
English-language Masses are held daily at the Grotto (typically early morning) and in the St. Joseph Chapel in the Basilica complex. The exact schedule changes seasonally, our pilgrimage leaders will give you the current timetable on arrival.
